Overview of Edi Phi
Edi Phi believes that young adults are looking for more than just a weekly
service with a talking head so we have set up a young adult community where
people can come and hear good teaching, but also build lasting friendships with
their peers. To accomplish this, we utilize the following proven techniques:
- Weekly service. On Wednesdays, Pastor David Blythe
will typically share a message dealing with an issue relevant to young
adults like finances, relationships, excellence in business, etc. He will
often be aided by our Production Team, which will put on skits, show video
clips, etc. After the message, everyone breaks up into Fusion life groups
where they can discuss the topic for that night and anything else God has
laid on their heart.
- Monthly parties and socials. Every month we gather for a house
party that is totally free of charge to anyone who wants to come. These are
not your typical, throw things together at the last minute, parties either.
The group has been blessed with some wonderful cooks who prepare dishes like
filet mignon cooked in butter with a mushroom sauce, fettuccini with a
creamy garlic alfredo sauce, mini-shells with white cheddar sauce, spicy
fajitas, crab wontons, and chocolate mocha cheesecake. Makes me hungry just
thinking about it. Then, we will always have some fun activity for the group
to participate in. These parties are always the highlight of the month and
have helped establish many relationships within the group. In addition to
the monthly parties, the group will also have other social gatherings like
movie night, sporting events, bowling, ice skating, etc. Also, following the
meetings on both Sunday and Wednesday, people from the group will usually go
somewhere to get something to eat or to play poker all night. Edi Phi offers
plenty of social activities that will give anyone a chance to get to know
the people around them.
- Trips and retreats. We typically have two big trips planned every
year. In the winter, we will go to a ski resort so members can ski,
snowboard, play in the snow or just relax in the beautiful weather. Then
over the summer, we will take a trip to California and hang out on the
beach, go to a baseball game, shop at the mall or just hang out. We always
have a blast on all of our trips and retreats, but also have a time to talk
about the things of God and grow spiritually.
- Service projects. Whether it be at the church or in the community,
there always is a need for servants. We have one official service project
each month where we either do various community outreach events or help with big events at the church.
Jesus said in Matthew 22:11 that "the greatest among you will be the
servant".
