Background
Edi Phi has its roots in the young adult class YAM started by Ryan
Downing in September of 1999. At that time, the class was comprised of only
high school students, but it soon grew to include high schoolers, college
students, working young adults, and married couples. YAM's unique style of
relevant messages packaged in innovative ways quickly caused it to grow and
become a staple at Phoenix First Assembly of God church that was frequented by
many.
In 2003, David Blythe began Edi Phi as
another alternative for young adults. His insight into the issues young adults
deal with on a daily basis made it a popular class that quickly grew.
After over a year of tremendous growth of both Edi Phi and YAM, it was
decided that these two ministries with the same goal of helping young adults
realize the purpose God gave them, should combine their efforts. So in late
2004, Edi Phi and YAM became one, giving both groups a unified focus and the
access to new resources so they could make things happen. Integrating these
ministries has been one of the most positive developments in the young adult
ministry at the church and we believe God has even greater things in store for
the future.
